can I use an mp3 as a ringtone?

Like if I grab a snippet of a favorite song of mine, upload it to the SD micro card, can I set it as a ringtone, alarm etc?

Thanks for the info, great forum!

Sorry to correct you dave but you can have any mp3 file from your SD card as your ringtone. In order for this to work you must have uploaded an mp3 from you cpu to your phone using the data cable.

Just do as follows

1. Go to my files - Sounds - Memroy Card
1. Locate the tune from your the SD Micro Card
2. Select it and then press the top middle button so that the file options come up.
3. Click on move and then select "phone"
4. Go back to the main menu selct - My files - Sounds and now if transfered correctly the mp3 should be in your phone sound files and now you will be able to use it as a ringtone

any problems just reply.

Regrds

Yes as long as it is loaded onto the SD Card and then transfered to the phone memory it will work.

Can you use the whole mp3 or just a portion of it?.. Because i tried to used the whole song and it said that I did not have enough space on my phone to transfer it over.

Just out of curiousity, I have just purchased a SLVR and am in the process of transferring my old number to it and so I have not yet fiddled around with it much.
I would be interested to know if there is a maximum file size that can be used as a ringtone. For instance, I would very much like to use a file that is a 965kb 128mps MP3 and is 41 seconds in length (Though I have been able to edit it down to 26 seconds using an MP3 splitter)
I have not got as far as transferring it to my phone yet. I am undecided what is the best way to do that. Some say a mini USB cable and Carphonewarehouse insisted that Bluetooth was the best way to do it. Are they right or are they trying to push the higher priced alternative?

The most important thing is to cut the peace Mp3 you want to use as ringtone. Also changed mine to 64MB so I can have more tunes.
It's in your phone that he means. Press the round button and go to the main menu. Then select the Multimedia icon is the last on the botton left. Click there. Then "sounds" is the midlle top icon. There you find Memory card option (you might have to move around to find "memory card or phone memory") and follow
1. Locate the mp3 song from your the SD Micro Card (memory card)one at a time
2. Select it and then press the top middle button so that the file options come up.
3. Click on move and then select "phone". When you're done transfering all your mp3s (about 20 songs) change to Phone memory again and select one song at a time press that button that has 3 lines and chose select Apply as a ringtone. I guess that is it.

Hello, I've used the Motorola CD that came with the phone to cut an mp3 to around 30 secs. I then used the software to transfer the mp3 to the phone. The song is in the phone (not memory card) under "Sounds" and I can listen to it but when I tried to set it as ringtone the menu didn't give me that option. I can't find the song under setting- ring style either. Anyone has any idea of how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.
