Look in device manager while your phone is connected in PHONE MODE. See if there's anything showing a ! in a yellow circle...

Pete..
I hae the same problem. Will it only identify in the Phone Mode and not in File Transfer mode ?? Or this is only for the first identification process only ??
Thanks

It won't work in FT mode because it shuts down most of the phone functions. Use in phone mode and you can see phone mem and memory stick anyway, so no problems.

I'm having this problem as well. The phone is connected and is in "phone mode". I've checked device manager and there is no "!" in yellow. I can see that the phone and memory stick appear in device manager.

My Phone Explorer has searched the device on COM1 and COM3, and has not been able to identify or connect to it.

Any advice for this? I'd like to use My Phone Explorer - looks very useful. How can I get it to find and recognize the phone?

You should have way more ports than that! Go into settings, (f2) and get it to detect the phone.

When I go to Options (F2), it lists only 2 ports, COM1 and COM3. When I search device, it only looks for those two ports... strange. I'll try a reinstall. Have you ever heard of this?

Yep - normally the drivers haven't been installed fully - no fault of yours, more the scripting. I'll be better prepared when I have my laptop in front of me at home.

This is a common problem with older versions of MPE as it is designed to work with the W800i rather than the W810i. Ensure you are downloading version 1.4.5 at the least. There are more options for searching for devices and it will search all ports rather than just 1 & 3.

No, I'm definitely using 1.4.5. Just downloaded it yesterday, so it's the brand-new version. Still only looking on COM1 and COM3.

When you connect the phone to the PC, are you leaving it in phone mode or selecting File Transfer mode?

Ok. Quick answer: -

Use Bluetooth to connect the phone to the PC. This seems to work first time, everytime.

Also, make sure you have installed the drivers from the supplied CD.

Which supplied CD? From the phone? How do I install the drivers from the CD without installing all the rest of the software that's on there.

Also, I don't believe my computer supports Bluetooth, so I don't think that is an option.

When WINDOWS finds your hardware, it asks for drivers. Insert the CD at this point and tell Windows to check on the CD. That should sort it.

Sorry if I'm being thick here... When I connect my phone, Windows doesn't ask me for drivers, it seems to locate the hardware fine all by itself. And even if it were to ask for drivers, which CD do I use that has drivers on it? Do I need to download drivers somewhere, like maybe from the MPE website? The only software that seems to have difficulty locating the phone is the MyPhoneExplorer. And even then, do I need drivers for the phone, or for the USB drive, because MPE is not even recognizing a USB drive. Sorry, I'm a bit lost on this one, guys.

Do you have MSN messenger? If so would you be willing to allow a connection to your PC from mine so I can have a look and hopefully fettle it for you.

HI, I know it was a while ago that you were using the expansys forum about the problem you had with My Phone Explorer, but I am having the same problem. Every detail of my problem matches what you were reporting: MPE only detects 2 ports, etc, etc, and won''t detect my phone. Did you ever manage to sort this out?

Just one strange thing though: when I first got MPE it wouldn''t pick up my phoen, but I kept manually adjusting the settings (because I didn''t realise it would detect them itself) and eventually hit on a combination that worked. I do seem to remember that at that time it did show 4 ports, not just the 2. This was back in June. So I did manage, eventually, to get it to connect. But only once. Every time I''ve tried since then, it has only showed 2 ports, and has not been able to detect - or recognise - my phone. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

Hey there. I did actually get a solution to the problem. There was a new release of MPE that came out just as I was having this problem. When I downloaded the new version, everything worked fine. Must have been some issue about compatibility with the phone or USB ports or something. Make sure you''re using the latest version of MPE. Uninstall the old version and download a new installation and try it again to make sure it''s current.

Ah, I have tried that. I am using the latest version, with a fresh install. I''ve even tried on 2 different computers. It just won''t detect the phone. How annoying. What version are you using, by the way? Presumably V1.5.7, as I think that''s the latest.
