Has anyone had any problems using WiFi on this phone. I have two and they connect fine next to the Netgear access point but the signal completely drops out 10m away. My Qtek 2020 is fine as are my two laptops. Can anyone offer me any help?

Curiously mine does same 10 - 20 metres but at same time it picks up loads of other folks wifi as a drive around. I also use a netgear system- not a boosted one.

Same here.
I use a linksys and my phone decides randomly when to allow me to connect.More often then not after a hard reset I get a connection(just turning off doesn't produce the same result) but sometimes it just refuses. Then after 1 hr there will be an email which it downloaded according my automatic settings.
I also had one screenmisalignment case which was solved with a realignment.
Any body have any suggestions on the WIFI subject?

Have you tried changing the WiFi performance settings against power consumption? Setting, Wlan, power mode

Yep, I've tried adjusting the power settings and also the security setting. It seems to make no difference.

I'm having nothing but problems with the Tytn and WIFI connection. Every time I turn it on and try to connect to the Internet it just freezes. Tried to play around with Power saving setting to no avail. This device is horrible as I've had nothing but problems with it.

I have the TyTn which did connect to Wifi with no problemes; but, it had screen misaligning problem (calibration went out on right side of screen) and also a keyboard (letter n) problem. HTC in Milton Keynes turned around PPC in 10 days with new screen and keyboard. Now I cannot signon to WiFi though it can see lots of networks. My WiFi is encrypted, but though it selects it and asks for key, accepts it will now not sign in saying key is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do next? I know when it is all working it will be the best PPc on market!

I have a similar problem. I can connect and stay conneted to my WLAN but when I browse web sites I get stuck in the 'Locating' part ofter a few seconds. i.e. I have enough time to browse about 3 links before this happens. If I switch of WLAN, soft reset then turn on WLAN it works again for a few seconds.

I have a Netgear DG834PN MIMO AP - perhaps it is reducing the power after the initial connection - however the signal never seems to be very low.

It looks like a DNS problem but if you type in an IP address as the URL you have the same problem (or does DNS always get looked up). I did seem to work around this once by switching of DCHP on the router and hard coding IP and DNS on the TyTN. Note that just hard coding the details with DHCP still on changes nothing. This work around seemed to work but I couldn't repeat it later.

I do not have these problems when connecting over GPRS / 3G.

Any ideas?

I finally worked this one out. The problem is, if your router does not allocate the IP's for the network, the Tytn will just sit there waiting for one to arrive. If you're entering a WEP it will come back with an error about an incorrect WEP and ask you to enter it again.

You need to turn on DHCP on the router so the phone can be allocated an IP. If you need some static IP's on the network, just raise the start range of IP Pool, e.g 15. That leaves you plenty of IP's to use that won't be taken by another machine or cause conflicts.

Hope this helps everyone.

Hope this helps .....

Not mine. And it is adjusted to Best Performance. Only to take out the Wi-Fi Acces Point as a variable, I compared the TyTn (G wi-fi) against an iPaq hx4700 (B wi-fi) in my home network (G wi-fi), both of them working in the same place and simultaneously. Where the iPaq signal strength indicator was showing 3 bars or full signal, the TyTn indicator had only 1 bar. The iPaq kept the connection and worked fine. The TyTn connected once for some minutes and then the connection was lost. I was then in my bedroom, far about 10 meters from the AP, but with walls in the way. In my TyTn I can only have full signal strength indication when placed not more than 2 or 3 meters far from the AP. I am very disapointed with this product.

"2 or 3 meters far from the AP" with no obstacles.

I''m also having problems with the wifi on my (tmobile) tytn - It seems a ton of people are..Have set my performance slider to best signal on the tytn. Yes I''ve also made sure my router will lease the i.p ok - it connects for about 10 seconds then drops...whatever I do.

Goddamit - I only upgraded from my himalaya cos of the wifi and it doesn''t even work - I''ve tried it on various routers/a.p''s etc all with the same result - does anyone know of any reg tweaks or whatever to get it going properly? HTC and Tmobile...well....just like hitting yourself on the head with a hammer!

Thanks in advance if anyone has a fix!

I have contacted HTC on this. I told them the comparison that I''ve posted here. Their answer is reproduced below. As we can see, HTC recognise the wi-fi problem. Well, let''s wait for the update.

Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support

We understand that you are not happy with our product,?but there are some other problems around the wireless signals. Not only depends of the device but actually the controller of the same,?in the other device you tested maybe there was a total different built in unit, in order to assure that the quality of the signal?you should try changing the transmission channel of the router or access point.

Anyways we are waiting for a new update from our development team. This should be coming in about two months from now and there are some other cases around this wireless weakness. I recommend that you should look more often our website

Please don''t hesitate to contact us back if this doesn''t solve your query

Kind regards

I have exactly the same problem with mine as described by g_price, for example. It connects easily, stays connected, but after a few seconds, usually after browsing 3-4 links, it freezes with the "Locating" message.

If I turn wifi off and on using the connection manager, it works happily again - but only for a short while. Also, if I let it wait for a long time it usually unfreezes, but still only for some seconds.

This thread is 1 ½ months old - has somebody found a solution in the meantime?

Btw, Ikrym, which email address did you use for contacting HTC?
