E220 on Vista
Hi there, I am running the final release of Windows Vista. Is there an updated driver for the E220? Vista sees the device but only as a mass storage device, not a modem. Thanks Ryan |

Hi All, have the same problem since installing Vista Ultimate RTM, have downloaded several drivers from the huawei homepage - nothing works... Has anybody running under vista? regards, Markus |
Dear Experts, it seems, that I have the same problem with VISTA. The E220 Huawei is shown as a mass storage device , but not as a modem. I am happy about every help from You. The same situation I have got with one of my other XP computers. It was not possible for me to find out this problem. The E220 will not work with this one XP-PC. With other XP computers und the HUAWEI, I really have no problems. Sorry but I thought, the use of language is free and english is not my mother tongue. |
pkn; english please .... |
And why should pkn speak english? Maybe you should speak German..... |
it was just a request; but considering the thread was started in English and this is a site for expansys, an English company, English is the natural choice. |
eXpansys is also in Germany though and also share the same forum as the UK........... |
hi try this ... Modems/UMTS * Huawei E220 (kanguru optimus portugal or others) - recognized as CDFS (?!) but can´t read from, no driver installed... incompatible ->:-( Work-Around: You need another PC/Laptop and a USB Pen/Key Drive to do this: 1) Connect the E220 to your XP PC/Laptop 2) access the emulated CD Drive and copy all the Contents onto a USB Pen Drive. 3) Disconnect the E220 and the Pen Drive 4) Connect the Pen Drive to your Vista PC and install the software using the Autorun.exe file (Run as Administrator) 5) Connect the E220 - Vista will only recognize a USB Mass Storage Device and the emulated CD drive which it cannot access. 6) Open the Device Manager (in the Control Panel) 7) Look for the USB Mass Storage Device in the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" Section If there are more than one USB Mass Storage Devices, right click each one, select Properties, Details and then "Children" If it says "Huawei" somewhere inside the Value, you found the right one. 8) Right click on the Mass Storage Device and select "Update Driver Software" 9) Select "Browse my Computer" 10) Select "Let me pick" 11) Uncheck "Show compatible devices" 12) Select "(Generic USB Host Controller)" in the Manufacturer Tab 13) Select "USB Composite Device" in the Model Tab 14) Finish installing the Composite Device driver 15) Afterwards, Vista will add another USB Mass Storage Device, and if you are lucky, also 2 "Data Interfaces" 16) If it doesn''t detect the Data Interfaces, disconnect and reconnect your E220. 17) Vista should now detect all the E220s Data Interfaces 18) When asked to insert the disk containing the drivers, choose "I don''t have the disk" 19) Enter the \Drivers\WinXP Subfolder of your USB Pen Drive 20) Repeat Step 18&19 for the second Data Interface 21) Start your Huawei Mobile Connect (Web''n''Walk Manager) Software, and connect :) This has worked for me 3 times, I hope it does so for you, too! Note: This does NOT fix the Problem concerning the corrupt emulated CD-ROM Drive! |
Dear Steve Dave, thank''s for Your help. It was really great of You to give me Your support in the question of language. Best wishes from Paul. |
this looks awesome! thanks for the tip. i will try it this weekend and let you know. |
sorry the good one is down |
First of all, excuses for my english, I`m From Spain, I`ve tried the tip you have discribed, but only recognyze one data interface, the modem let me send sms but cannot connect to internet, it tell me i have a problem with the lan configuration or something similar, i have check out lan configuration and it seems to be all right, if you have a solution please respond if not, thanks otherwise I think probably the problem can be in the spanish software but i can´t know surely |
Hi, the installation all worked, and with me it recognised a Conexant V.92 modem and a Huawei 3G modem. However it will not connect to the service, although it will send text messages.I get an error message: "Please check the wireless device or the setting of the network connection". I''m using the Vodafone version of the software. Any help appreciated. Andy. |
Andy, i am having exactly the same problem. i can send sms'' but not actually connect. have you resolved this yet? does anybody have a solution for this? many thanks Ryan |
I''m from Spain too, and I managed to connect the E220 (Vodafone) on Vista (spanish language). After the manual installation of drivers, you have to create a modem connection. The number to call is *99# (no user nor password required). To connect, you need the "Vodafone mobile access" opened, but if you double click the icon, the application will throw an error. Go to the modem connection and click connect. It worked for me. Tell me if you need more detailed instructions. |
Thats an interesting idea Haveloc. I resolved it yesterday - a guy who works for the MTN network in South Africa sent me beta drivers and host software (dashboard upgrade) which worked fine. Let me know if you''d like me to send you them. Rgds Andy. |
some more detailed info would be great! thanks... |
Andy; I am also in SA on the MTN network. Could you perhaps email me these beta drivers? Or put me in touch with the guy from MTN so i can get them? Would be seriously appreciated. Thanks Ryan |
OK Ryan well the guy posts on the mybroadband.co.za forum with the name MTN_Data_Dude. Maybe you can contact him that way, otherwise let me know your email address and I''ll send you the drivers. Cheers, Andy. |
Hi Nandod, Thanks for your info on 7 Feb. It really works! I got an Asus A8JR notebook pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium on 1st Feb 2007. Next day I got the HSDPA compatible Huawei E220 USB Modem from www.three.com.hk ("3 Mobile"). I used another computer (XP Pro SP2) to copy the folder in E220 to a thumb drive. Then I inserted the thumb drive in the Asus notebook; set the setup program as XP SP2 Compatible mode before I installed the software. When the E220 plugged in, I got internet access in a few second. However, the pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium was so unstable that so many programs stopped automatically. You may not believe, but ALL 7 restore points that I created from the Backup and Restore Centre of the Control Panel FAILED. WHAT A DISASTER! (It supposed to be a new reliability feature of Windows Vista!), I had no choice but to re-install the whole hard disk with 2 partitions by pressing [F9] during boot up. THIS IS ANOTHER DISASTER! The re-installed Asus A8JR was not the same as brand-new any more. It wouldn''t recognize the E220 anymore! People in Asus Royal Club Hong Kong helped me find this blog. Thanks to Marco and Mr Liu. And thanks Nandod. For those who follow the steps above 18:23 on Feb 07 above, may not find the Data Interfaces as of step 15. What you need to do is to delete the USB Mass Storage Device and the USB Composite Device (just created) and Scan for Hardware Changes from the Device Manager. You''ll find the Data Interfaces under "other devices" in the Device Manager. Then re-continue step 16. You may need to install the driver twice as there are two Data Interfaces to complete. Good luck. |
Hello Andy, I would really appreciate it if you could send me the drivers (philip.newman99@btinternet.com). Thanks Phil |
