E220 on Vista (Page 3)
Hi there, I am running the final release of Windows Vista. Is there an updated driver for the E220? Vista sees the device but only as a mass storage device, not a modem. Thanks Ryan |

Hi there, I experience loads of problems with my new laptop that runs on Vista. I am using USB modem (Hauwei E220) for quite some time now on my PC (XP) with good success. But I can not use it on my laptop. I tried your advice but after installed the USB composite device I can not get further... I have just sorted out my problem with my DVDWR drive by modifying the registry. Since then the modem is functioning properly but the USB Mass Storage device is malfunctioning therefroe I can not connect to the internet. When I try to update the driver software it says that it founds the driver but can not install due to invalid data. Do you have any idea how I can sort it out? Your help is much appreciated. Thanks, Anita anicsku@gmail.com |

Hi, I purchased a HUAWI E220 HSDPA 3G Modem from 3 Mobile about three weeks ago as I travel a lot and need an internet connection. I have a laptop running Vista but do not have access to another machine running XP or I would try the solution already posted. Does anyone have all the files needed to set it up on Vista they could email me please? beth.mullins@ntlworld.com It is getting expensive paying hotel connection charges for work use. I took the modem into a 3 shop today, and they said there was nothing wrong with it and wouldn't help. Also since I tried to install it my DVD drive does not work anymore - did anyone else have this problem?
Many thanks Beth |
Beth,
Please remove your email address as you will end up getting spammed. Pete (I need JD) Graham ************** Damn you! Use forum search!!. |
It seems I have exactly the same problem that is reported here, however: I have a Huawei E870 Mobile Connect Express card, branded KPN (they call it Mobiel Internet Kaart 820 by the way). It's not a USB device, but a PC-express card. My problem is exactly the same as described here: when installed, it's only recognised as a mass storage device, not as a modem or anything like it. U hoped that the solution would be the same as you all had with the E220. However, at the step where the composite USB-driver should replace the USB Mass storage driver, the driver install hangs the PC and times out after a long wait. Anyone familiar with Huawei's E870 device under vista??
|
@ yo-1 We have got here exactly the same problem as described in your post. We are using the Huawei E870 Mobile Connect Express Card too. (aka Mobiel internet kaart 820, provider KPN) In my case, we are using 30 of these cards, all on Vista Business en all on the HP Compaq 6710b laptops. In Device manager, the card also does not show up under modems. I've tried already to reinstall the whole thing in various ways, no success. Deleted the cardbus controller, rebooted, did not work. Stange detail: the laptops with no problems, have two KPN dir's in Program Files: 1st: KPN, 2nd KPN mobile dashboard. Can you please post your findings, maybe we can figure out a solution.
|
Hi Mesjoggah, I'm sorry I can't really help you out. The solution that worked best for me: - I took the card back to KPN, asking a refund; - I bought an Option Globetrotter Express card, inserted it, installed the software, the cards was recognized, and I was on-line in an estimated 5 minutes.... As we say in Holland: it runs like sunshine!!!! |
What a pity ! :-) Good Luck ! |
Hi, you need to update the firmware of the modem so that vista can recognise it. I download a new firmware from my service provider (vodafone) and I can use the modem with vista.
I hope that will point u in the right Direction.
