Jeezus,

What''s your current version, and what''s the number of the one you''ve been told about?

Mine is 3 weeks old, from Orange UK online store, and says:

Nokia 6300
V04.70
24-01-07
RM-217

So, what version is this "new" software, and where can you get it from?

You didn''t read Jeezus'' post properly mate.

His IS older than yours, yours IS the newer firmware he alludes to.

I suspect he spotted this when he mentioned his firmware in another thread, and I posted elsewhere also that 4.70 exists.

Just to answer your OTHER q) however Jeezus, as yet, as 4.70 is deemed to be the "common release build" even though it is newer than your own, then it is not yet on the Nokia Update site, or available via NSU.

Only when an update to THIS version (4.70) appears, will it make it to NSU, and thus a HOME based upgrade option.

For now, if you want 4.70 you''ll have to go to a Nokia Service Centre, if they can do it.

But given the bugs it has, I''d personally just hold out for an even newer version, and jump straight to that when it appears...

HTH

For jeezus

sorry to move bit away from the topic, i have the same firmware as you listed

nokia 6300
v 04.20
05-12-06
RM-217

Was there a problem like the side blue reminder lights not blinking with this firmware version?

For all,

I tried to update the firmware version yesterday. but it said that this version was latest!!!
Some people talked about 4.70 being available, where can I find that?

I have 4.70 and the side indicator lights work. Check they are turned on the current profile. There is an update for the 6300 on the NSU site - I assume this is 4.70.

Rik,

When I visit the Nokia Software Updater site at:

http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014

I DO NOT see the 6300 listed.

Can you post the link where you see the 6300 listed please?

Yep, that''s the one. When I tried it the desktop app said my firmware was up to date so I assumes that''s 4.70 as that''s what is on my 6300.

LCuK,

If that is the case, yours is the NEWEST firmware seen so far.

So can you do us a favour, and test to see if they have fixed a bug please...?

Can you go into Menu > Settings > Display > Standby Font Colour...

Choose a nice bright red colour please using up donw left and right keys, then the middle select button.

Then go back to the normal phone standby screen.

And tell us if the phone HAS actually changed the colour of the text for the words:

* Goto * * Menu * * Names *

Along the bottom of the screen (your wording might be slightly different, depending on how your phone is set up).

Have they now fixed it so that it DOES change the colour fo this Menu text now mate...?

Please let us know.

ALSO... What is your Product Code (not the imei number which is unique, but the Device Product Code, which is written on a label underneath the battery).

Will you share it with us, so we can see if this is why you have a newer firmware, as the product code is a GENERIC number, not an individual one that people can steal off you. Just different models have different numbers, and also Operator specific models of the device, have a slightly different number to SIM free versions etc.

So can you tell us what your product code is, and what type of phone it is - i.e. Orange branded, Vodafone Branded, or SIM Free none branded etc etc.

It''s underneath the bar-code (that''s one of them new 2D bar-code square shaped things over to the right).

It has a seven digit number there like 05xxxxx

Its above the imei number.

Cheers mate.

Jertzy, that''s why I was asking - you see, for SOME product codes, take for example an Orange branded version of a 6300, users who connect to the Nokia Update Site, CANNOT update to the latest GENERIC build, if they have custom orange firmware.

So I was just wondering if the Product Code was the reason for this in this instance.

It''s a known situation - but what ''some'' people do, unwarrantied, is use a certain piece of software to alter their product code (this can be done fairly easily), to the GENERIC version code - and this way a user can update to a newer firmware, even if their own operator has not yet brought out their OWN custom version update.

But note that this method is unwarrantied by Nokia, as far as I know.

I still think that as far as the 6300 is concerned however, that even for GENERIC handsets, the latest update is still 4.70, even though newest handsets themselves have a 4.71 version on from out the box.

Weird.
