What is an "Unlocked" phone?
Many cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card to store subscriber data. These SIM cards are issued by the carrier and provide cell service to the phone. "Locked" cell phones will only recognize SIM cards from the carrier that originally provided the phone. Almost every cell phone provided by a US carrier is locked to that carrier’s network.
"Unlocked" cell phones will recognize SIM cards from any carrier using Global System Mobile Communications (GSM) technology. Customers with "unlocked" cell phones are able to use any GSM carrier of their choosing, including "pre-pay" or "no contract" SIM card options. "Unlocked" cell phones also accept international SIM cards that provide discounted rates while traveling abroad.

Love the phone
I have used the phone for a year. Love it!!! It is fast run great on 3g/4g Battery life is bad went out and purchased a bigger battery on ebay $7.00 now it last 2 days with heavy use. I mean heavy use. More then 2 times my Iphone 3gs did. The battery makes the phone heavy and bigger (well worth it). For the Price I will give it 5 stars. its not a $700.00 phone for 98% time it is = to a 700.00 phone

This phone is a bad version
Recently bought this phone and noticed that it does not have the stated 4 GB on board ROM but only 1.3GB, sometimes phone does not recognise the SD card is on board, freezes often and restarts, battery very very weak and runs down very fast- need to buy a long life additional battery, Genius function almost useless especially for a phone which distinguish it self with this attribute, white version very shiny and not comfortable on the hand, a touch screen is a blur and grease magnet....I heard that the Taiwan version (which was mine) is faulty and unreliable. On the positive side very fast browsing and application loading. Had to return mine for exchange,,,,,Perhaps the later made versions of this phone are better
