What is an "Unlocked" phone?

Many cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card to store subscriber data. These SIM cards are issued by the carrier and provide cell service to the phone. "Locked" cell phones will only recognize SIM cards from the carrier that originally provided the phone. Almost every cell phone provided by a US carrier is locked to that carrier’s network.

"Unlocked" cell phones will recognize SIM cards from any carrier using Global System Mobile Communications (GSM) technology. Customers with "unlocked" cell phones are able to use any GSM carrier of their choosing, including "pre-pay" or "no contract" SIM card options. "Unlocked" cell phones also accept international SIM cards that provide discounted rates while traveling abroad.

The LG KS360 has been designed with convenience and ease of use in mind. With the KS360’s slider QWERTY keypad, users can send SMS, IM, email and have the ability to access social networking sites. To make messaging easier, once the full length keypad has been opened, the 2.4” screen automatically rotates 90 degrees using accelerometer technology. At just 16.8mm thin, this handset has been designed to fit easily into a pocket or handbag, a convenient alternative to lugging a laptop around.

The LG KS360 features a 2.4" screen which can be used as a touchscreen for dialling. It also comes with 15MB internal storage and will take up to a 4GB MicroSD card. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, USB, polyphonic ringtones, MP3 and AAC audio and MPEG4 and H.263 vid playback, and a WAP 2.0 browser.
