I recently bought this for my son for Christmas and I cannot believe how much this tiny machine has to offer!! Its so easy to use too, simply unpack it, turn it on and you're ready to go - simple even for a technophobe like me! At this price you simply can't go wrong - I'm probably going to get one for myself now too!... More
Imagine the hullabaloo that greeted the unveiling of the Asus Eee PC at the Computex trade show earlier this year. Not only is this one of the smallest and lightest ultra-portables ever made, but it's also one of the cheapest.
This review aims to provide readers with an in-depth treatment of the Eee, using an actual retail unit, instead of a pre-production model. This is important in a number of respects. Earlier models had a different BIOS, which, for example, did not provide full speed USB2.0 ports. Hopefully, having tested an actual retail model, the review should give a true representation of what this machine can actually do.

The Eee PC may look Walmart- chic, but even in its XP iteration, it outperforms many pricier UMPCs in terms of pure speed. Much of this has to do with XP vs. Vista: XP is much better suited to low-spec CPU machines and ASUS was wise enough to stick with it rather than turn out a sluggish Vista machine.

9/10 Recommended Award! Refreshingly innovative and scandalously cheap, Asus' Eee PC is a great little device for those with basic needs. A great keyboard makes working on it surprisingly easy, while media playback adds a little extra to the package. Internet browsing is also a key component and though the low resolution screen lets it down somewhat, at this price it would be churlish to penalise it too greatly.

Of course I have a laptop but it's a big widescreen job and weighs a ton so for a while now I've been in the market for something a little smaller. After using an Ameo for a while I decided the keyboard really isn't suitable for my big fingers and typing on it is pretty slow.
I seem to have finally found the answer in the shape of the Asus Eee PC - a lightweight, scaled down laptop with near-normal sized keys and a 7" screen.
