Technical Details

  • VersaMail 2.5.2: VersaMail now has features such as Auto Get mail with notification, the ability to synchronize with Lotus Notes and your mail folders, the ability to view detailed information during the HotSync® process, and read rich-text messages in color. URLs can now launch the Web Browser directly with a new display and font options, encrypted account passwords, improved attachment support, message send retries and overall Improved usability.
  • Keylock functionality: Enable Keylock and avoid accidentally turning the unit on. Check the box in the Keyboard Preferences Panel or activate it manually using the Function-Power key combination. When enabled, all keys (including the headset button) are disabled except for the Power key.
  • Always-On Connection Capability Even when Device Turns Off: Enables the data connection to stay active after the device goes to sleep. Note, many carriers may disconnect the session after an extended period of non-activity, in which case the connection must be re-established.
  • Improved LED Notification Configuration: There are two new features in the Sounds & Alerts Preferences Panel: "Charging LED" and "Coverage LED". "Charging LED" can be set to "on" or "off". "Coverage LED" can be set to "On", "no coverage", or "off" in order to notify only when coverage is available.
  • TTY Support: Provides TTY support for hearing impaired customers. TTY availability is carrier-dependant, check with your wireless carrier for availability.
  • Graffiti® 2: Replacement of the previous Graffiti software with the new Graffiti2 software. Enter characters with applications such as Jot® and a stylus instead of the built-in keyboard. Note, after upgrading, installing an updated version of Jot from the Add-On subdirectory in Palm programs directory is required. The updated application is placed in this subdirectory during the upgrade process.
  • Volume control is available when device is powered off: Now, when talking on the phone and the screen has turned off, it's possible to increase/decrease the call volume by simply pressing up/down/left/right on the 5way navigator. The screen will temporarily turn on while the volume is being adjusted and then turn off again after a 2-second delay.
  • Explicit Call Transfer: Enables calls to be transferred to a 3rd person. Note: call originator will still be billed for the call after the transfer is made.
  • Phone Book Features on SIM: Ability to view Personal numbers, SOS numbers, My Numbers and Service dialing numbers from the SIM card. Note: The Service numbers phone book may be empty or may not exist. Your wireless carrier manages this phone book. Also, editing any number on the SIM card only changes the data on the card and not in the Address Book or numbers in the Mobile application; Ability to copy Personal numbers or Services numbers to the Address Book by tapping the SIM card Phone Book's Record Menu: "Copy to Address Book" or "Copy all to Address Book"; My Numbers" and "Personal numbers" are now editable. Note: SOS and Service numbers are not editable; Voice mobile number is editable (when enabled by the carrier). Voice mobile number is the first entry in "My numbers"; Mobile application now includes the ability to dial from the SIM card
  • Device can be set to keep the screen on & non-backlit during call: Prevent the screen from turning off while talking on the phone. The backlight will turn off after the auto-off timer expires, but the LCD will remain on. The backlight will turn on when you tap the screen, keys, or the call ends (only if backlight was previously enabled). The handheld will return to normal auto-off behavior after the call ends or the feature is disabled; This feature is accessible through Call Settings panel in the Mobile Preferences panel.
  • Dial Pad and Speed Dial now support 40 characters: Dial pad and speed dial now support up to 40 characters.
  • Clear Call History: Clear your call history records by selecting "Clear Call History…" from the Mobile menu.
  • Other Misc. Mobile Features added: DTMF tones pressed after a call is connected are now audible via the earbud; New support for emergency dialing of 3 digits or less (International features); New support for password hiding when entering PIN codes; Auto Num Lock is enabled in areas such as PIN code entry, phone number filtering in Dialer App, Mobile Panel and SMS app; Speed Dial Lists are backed up during Hot Sync.
  • Additional Incoming SMS Alert Detail: The "From line" of the SMS Alert now displays the Sender's name when the contact's phone number is stored in the Address book. In addition, time and date are now both displayed along with three lines of body text.
  • SMS Forwarding: You can now forward SMS messages from the menu. Forwarding a message will pre-populate the message body with information from the message being forwarded.
  • Drop Down List of Most Recent SMS Numbers: The SMS "To" field is now a dropdown box with a list of numbers to send to. "To" field is capable of storing 7 most recently used numbers. The To list can be also be cleared by selecting the Options->"Clear To List" available in the SMS application's New Message screen.
  • Dial/SMS/Save Numbers within an SMS: Numbers embedded in an SMS message and the From field may be dialed, SMSed or saved to the Address Book by tapping on the number. The number is highlighted (blue with underscore) to indicate when this feature is available.
  • SMS Clear Folder feature: Delete messages in a given folder by selecting "Clear Folder". This will move all messages in the current folder to the trash folder. Selecting "Empty Trash" will then delete the messages.
  • Background download API improvements for Developers & Ability for Developers to Suppress Connection UI: Additional features have been added to allow developers to suppress connection dialog boxes in order to connect to the data network while the device is off.
  • Real-Time Network Selection Feature: Now, when trying to connect to a network connection, a second button is displayed labeled "change network…". Tapping this button will stop the current network connection process and bring up a network selection drop down menu so you can select between various networks and configurations.
  • Other User Interface Improvements: With the device turned off, you can access the time via the WorldClock application by pressing the select/center button of the Navigator. The time will be displayed and the device will turn off again; A new Preferences panel for easier display and navigation using the 5way Navigator; The signal strength indicator has been enhanced to show additional data connection states (GPRS not available, GPRS coverage available, GPRS attached, GPRS active , GSM CSD active); The signal strength indicator has been added to the launcher screen; The signal strength indicator has been added to the SMS application.
  • Synchronize Time With Network (where supported): Select to have your handheld's time synchronized with the network when supported by your wireless service provider. Check with your wireless service provider for availability. This feature is enabled from the Date & Time panel in Preferences.
