Unlocked (what's this?)

What is an "Unlocked" phone?

Many cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card to store subscriber data. These SIM cards are issued by the carrier and provide cell service to the phone. "Locked" cell phones will only recognize SIM cards from the carrier that originally provided the phone. Almost every cell phone provided by a US carrier is locked to that carrier’s network.

"Unlocked" cell phones will recognize SIM cards from any carrier using Global System Mobile Communications (GSM) technology. Customers with "unlocked" cell phones are able to use any GSM carrier of their choosing, including "pre-pay" or "no contract" SIM card options. "Unlocked" cell phones also accept international SIM cards that provide discounted rates while traveling abroad.

perfect peice of Junk ---I love it!

I have a Samsung Galaxy Android Tablet that I use with Groove IP, Google Voice and MiFi as my primary phone. However this isn't 100% reliable and I decided to keep a pay-as-you-go phone service with AT&T and the V5 for when I have to make those short but super important phone calls. I would rather not carry around 2 phones.. two smart phones for that matter... so that's why I have this small piece of junk ...and its perfect piece of junk. I love it!

GREAT toy

Bought one...worked. Bought the 2nd one...worked. I keep it in my briefcase for "emergency" phone calls and one in my truck in case I need to make a call and my regular network is down.

Exactly as advertised

This phone is exactly as advertised: "a low end solution." It is made of cheap plastic with cheap rubber buttons; it looks and feels like a fake cell phone toy for kids...except its fully functional! I didn't except it to be so functional. All the bare bone tools of pre-smartphone era phones are here: Contacts book, Call History, Alarm Clock, Calculator, World Clock, Calendar. The call quality and reception are mediocre. But it's very light weight and small (it reminds me of the cell phones from Zoolander). This is a poor man's 1999 Nokia (extremely poor man). I don't think it's worth the listed $19.99; the current sale price of $12.99 is somewhat reasonable; but if I had to make another purchase, I would probably only pay no more than $10 for this phone. Also, at first glance, there doesn't seem to be a way to install the battery. But at the bottom, there's a small notch where you can pry open off the back casing and put in the battery and SIM card.
